Not a good start to the day on 22nd May 2012 at 3-00am local time a Richter scale 5.9 earthquake jolted Pernik and Sofia with the village Rudartsi sitting on top of the epicentre! Thankfully no serious casualties reported.
The epicentre of the quake is shown on the map below and it can clearly be seen how close it was to Sofia.
I slept through it but some people as far away as Veliko Tarnovo claim they felt it and it woke them up!
